Frequently asked questions
About me + my approachHow long have you been shooting for?
6 years professionally. I started RLP in 2015 and have shot many weddings since. Do you always shoot weddings alone? Almost always. I've got a system, and it hasn't ever let me down. I have in a handful of cases hired a second photographer to cover an event. This may be an option you want to include in your package if it seems logistically necessary. More often than not, you won't need it. But let's chat and see what works for you! Are you inclusive of everyone? Are you open to LGBTQIA+, religious/non-religious ceremonies? Excuse the expression but abso-f*cking-lutely. I cannot understand why this is still a question that has to be asked. It makes me so sad to hear couples say they've been turned away by someone because of their sexuality, culture, or color of their skin! @thosephotographers Love is love, get over it. Is this your full-time job? No, it's not! I shoot up to 15 weddings a year. But my full time gig is being a practicing artist and arts administrator! I am presently pursuing a graduate degree and hope to one day be PhD-toting curator at a major museum. My life is art, welcome to it! |
Booking and pricing
How do I book?
Slide into my inbox and I'll walk you through it! I require a signed contract, deposit, and travel expenses paid to hold the date. Sounds complicated, but I promise it is easy peasey. ;)
What is your payment schedule?
I book weddings with a $1000 deposit + travel, 50% of the remaining balance 90 days before the event, and the remainder due the day of the event. This schedule allows you to spread out the cost a bit, and ensures that my business is secure and travel is guaranteed to you.
Do you make custom packages?
My packages are a guideline I use to guide both you and I through the booking process. Most everyone will end up with a custom package because every wedding is different. Let's chat and see what we can come up with, for YOU!
Can I see a full gallery of your work?
YES! Of course. I have several you can look at. Just shoot me an email and I'll send you a link. ;)
Is your pricing cut and dry? I love your work but I just cannot afford you.
In short, no. My pricing is a guideline. Maybe we can adjust somethings and find something that works for both of us. While I am a strong advocate for getting paid appropriately for my work, maybe we can cut out some things and make the price point reasonable to you. Always better to reach out and have a conversation than to miss out on the photos you have your heart set on.
How do you arrive at your package prices?
Here's the skinny - photography is expensive, especially wedding photography. I get it. But let me tell you why. I have spent years perfecting my craft. I've completed an art degree and I've watched countless people walk down the aisle through my lens. You're paying for a large collection of images that have all of my style, experience, and pizazz meshed together with your love and relationship. WOAH, I know. You're also paying for the tens of thousands of dollars of equipment that running a photography business requires. On top of that, insurance, memory cards, online delivery, ware on my vehicle, and my time. So, if you break that down, my pricing is pretty minimal. In fact, I find myself at the low end for the quality of what I deliver. I say this with confidence because I've had people attempt to talk me down to the point where I feel my work and product is insulted. I'm an artist, I own a woman led business, and I've gotta practice what I preach and advocate for the worth of my work.

The experience
What do I do if I am just no good at taking pictures?
First of all, you're hot. Own that. Second of all, I believe in a dynamic approach to shooting. You may be awkward as all hell, but WHO CARES because that's you. Trust me, I have some tactics that will work some genuine smiles out of you. Posed "looking at the camera" photos are just not my thing. Your shoot will be fun, and at minimum I'll have you laughing at me (even if it's not with me).
Is it okay to text you about outfits and details and venting?!
Hell yes. Always.
Can we meet before our shoot or wedding?
Yes, please. In fact, I super duper recommend it! Being in front of the camera is sometimes scary. So whether it's finding out how we like our tacos or just getting to know one another, let's do it. I highly encourage all of my wedding couples to do an engagement shoot with me. At a minimum, we have to hangout over coffee or a beer first. You should not meet the person responsible for capturing the essence of your relationship on the day of your wedding.

Production
How can I ensure that my wedding photos are safe after the event?
Welcome to my worst nightmare. My camera "double writes" which means that while I'm shooting, there are two cards that are receiving each image. As soon as I get to the car, those cards are put into my water tight-crush proof card case. That night, the images are transferred to an external drive. The cards are not wiped until the wedding is processed AND delivered. The images remain on the external drive for 1 year after the wedding. Your images are safe, my paranoia makes sure of it ;)
What is your turn around time?
On average, 3-4 weeks for a portrait session, and 8 weeks for weddings. This fluctuates with the season but I will keep you posted with the progress of your album.
How are images delivered?
I use an online delivery system to give you as many options as you could imagine. A link will be emailed to you and you will be able to send it to whomever you'd like. Anyone with the password can download the images for themselves. Online galleries are available for 90 days. Physical flash drives are available for additional fees. Contact me for more details.
Who owns the copyright?
I do. You will receive full printing rights and be able to produce the images as much as you'd like for your own use or for the use of your loved ones. But the photos cannot be sold or produced for profit. Full details will be in the contract emailed to you.
What resolution are images delivered in?
The highest available after processing and cropping. You can expect most images to be 20-30mb, plenty big enough for any print project.
Can we have the RAW Files?
RAW images or unedited photos will never be delivered to a client for any reason. Rachael Lynn Photography provides a consistent style and experience that is branded by how I edit my images. You're putting that trust in me and my ability. It is included in all of my contracts that altering any of the images is in violation of the agreement.
Do you have video packages?
I do not, but I know a bunch of awesome people who do. If you're interested, let me know and I can send you some contacts!
How long do you keep our images for? What if I lose my images?
Online galleries are available temporarily after the delivery of the images. This site will be accessible for 90 days. It is your responsibility to make sure all images are downloaded and saved somewhere safe before that 90 days expires. I will keep your images for one year after your wedding or portrait session. There is a $100 fee for photos that must be available again to download. The online gallery is a costly service and would require this additional fee to redeliver.
