A little about me…
I've lived a pretty weird life and have experienced all sorts of things. Perhaps most central to that weirdness is how I got into photography in the first place. I was raised in Michigan, hunting, fishing, and playing sports. My dad often joked that I was his son (eff societal norms). When I began college, I played softball and studied science but a few injuries later, I found myself declaring an art major and holding a camera, loving nothing more than expressing the personality of others and our world through the art of photography. Three cheers to abandoning all life plans and it all working out 1000x better than you could have ever imagined! A few summers ago I traded in my lake girl sweatshirt for a desert residency. Instead of the Mackinac Bridge, my license had a faint resemblance of a canyon. I loved everything Arizona had to offer. I climbed many mountains and crawled out of a few canyons and enjoyed the warmth of the sun every single day. BUT I surrendered my desert life to my ambitions to be a PhD-toting curator. I've moved back to the MidWest and will continue to call the Great Lakes home!

I consume copious amounts of popcorn and coffee, was born in the wrong generation when it comes to music, and I only wear cool neutrals, red and blue (occasionally an olive green, I guess). I am a firm believer that iced coffee genuinely tastes better than hot. In my spare time you could find me taking my cat, Lily, and dog, Elton, for hikes, attending an Elton John concert, or booking a plane ticket for the other side of the world. I like red lipstick a lot and believe that I could survive off of the consumption of tacos. I am also unapologeticly obsessed with plants. Most of them have names and I pay more attention to their diets than my own. So happy they finally have the sun and the heat that they deserve! |
A little about my style…
Style is something everyone has to bring out of themselves. It can be learned through experience or it can be a method of bringing out what you see in a person, in their portrait. Portrait photography, like any type of art, is meant to capture the essence of the person while preserving the memory for a lifetime. My style is just that. I love to bring out who you are in your portraits. A unique perspective, creative tones, and energy erupt a fresh view of your personality. In my portraits you will find that I love using the natural beauty around us to enhance the the art that I am capturing. With that being said, I would love to meet with you to get to know you. I want to accurately capture who you are to preserve your memories in a way that is special to you! Warmly, Rachael |
